WFH 101

Hi friends! I thought since we are all going to be WFH for the foreseeable future. I would share my WFH space, how I’ve adjusted and some tips I’ve learned so far!

I am by no means an expert but I always think we can learn something new. And if I can help even one person be more successful and happy during this time, I will be over the moon!

Below are some tips I have learned from being full time WFH for almost 3 months now

-You will still wake up exhausted even though you are "sleeping more. Keeping a good sleep routine is something I let slip in the beginning of this. But when I started noticing it really effecting me, I went back to a better schedule and really feel the difference.

-Try to make a routine and keep it. We used to do this before when we had to go into the office, so why can’t we now? For me, I wake up, make coffee (always key for me), make my bed, brush my teeth and pick out something to wear. All things I used to do and I have found help me wake up and make the most of my day. I haven’t got back into putting makeup on but hey, but maybe month 4??

-Distractions will happen. Learn to work with them and not to get frustrated. I’m still working on this but I find my headphones and good music/podcast can help more then I ever knew.

-It’s ok to do things here or there around your house if you have a few free minutes. Instead of running to get coffee at 3pm between meetings, now we use that time do a quick load of laundry. As long as your feeling productive and getting your work done…you are good!

-Learn your boundaries. With all of us WFH, some of our coworkers are going to (let’s be real here) never stop working. While that’s not the case for me, I have many friends who get emails all hours of the night now and are expected to answer. This is not ok. Talk to your manager if this is happening and make sure you find out when your set hours are. Work/life balance is key when you WFH full time. You need to be able to unplug and have time to focus on your personal life.

Even though I already had a desk, adjusting my space to be a full time work area was needed. I did a major clean up and tried to get my home desk as organized as my office desk.

I do though find myself moving around my house. Working on my bed and at the kitchen table, etc. And that’s ok. It’s like moving to conference room or a office couch. But I have found that during big meetings or tight deadlines by sitting at my desk, I am my most efficient.

I also treat my desk during work hours and blog hours very different. I know this seems odd but it really helps keep the balance.

Finally, it also helps to have a space you enjoy. That’s why I love decorating my desk and sharing it here with you all! I hope this helps you with adjusting to WFH full time and making your desk space at home one you will.

I hope this helps you as we transition into this WFH life for the near future! Do you guys love or hate WFH? Comment here because I wanna know!
