My 20 Favorite NYC Mexican Restaurants
Happy Cinco De Mayo! I hope something like a little quarantine isn’t stopping you from celebrating!? Well regardless I figured I would FINALLY share my favorite Mexican restaurants in NYC. This way when life goes back to (kinda) normal, you know where to get your first freedom taco or where to get delivery/pick up in the mean time! And if you know me, you know I love tacos, margaritas, quesadillas and guac. So you are all in for a treat!
1. Empellón
One of my favorite rooftops in the city. Empellón has four locations in NYC including the rooftop at the POD 39 Hotel. https://www.empellon.com/

2. El Vez
Located in FIDI, great margaritas and outside seating close to the Hudson River.

3. Caliente Cab
A spot in the West Village, I find myself going back to time and time again. Large space and bar so you can usually always get a spot.

4. Tacombi
While the margarita pitchers are pretty pricy they are worth it. Along with amazing quesadillas and tacos. I just wish they would add sour cream to their menu. I’ve been to most of their NYC locations and each are equally great with awesome decor.

5. Rosie’s
Rosie’s has become a staple in my NYC story. It has everything you want…good food, drinks and ambiance. The Watermelon Margarita and the Queso Fundido are must haves.

6. El Camion Cantina
Located in the East Village, my friends and I had a blast when we went here! We also had very margaritas and I love that they offer three different sizes.

7. Calexico
If you ask my friends they would probably tell you Calexico is one of my favorite restaurants in NYC. The food is always fresh and delicious. The margs are great and the happy hour is a can’t miss.

8. Vida Verde
Working right around the corner from Vida Verde is VERY convenient. It’s a great after work happy hour with food spot. One of the best part…how large the restaurant is and the third floor rooftop in the summer.

9. Fonda
One of my favorite bottomless brunches. The frozen hibiscus Rosalita and the guacamole are both so delicious.

10. Casa Bocado
One of the most beautiful restaurants I’ve been to in New York. I loved the steak tacos and the pomegranate added to the guacamole was an awesome touch.

11. El Rio Grande
Known to have the strongest margaritas in the city. Just one with get you feeling warm and ready to go. Make sure to order food if you have more then one. And trust me they are so good you will want to!

12. Toloache
Toloache offers reservations, has two locations and amazing food. What else more do you need?

13. Barrio Chino
Such a relaxed vibe, with great food and happy hour. The location is small though so get there early so you don’t have to wait a while. (but it’s worth the wait if you have to!)

14. Taqueria St. Marks
No frills here but you don’t need them with the amount of cheese oozing out of their quesadillas and tequila in the margaritas.

15. La Esquina
Another one of my favorite post work happy hour/dinner spots. Super fresh ingredients, great tacos and drinks. Great for a quick lunch run as well!

16. Mexicue
I come here again, again and again. A mix of bbq and mexican. Everything here is good. You won’t regret anything here.

17. Toro Loco
This used to be one of my go to spots when I worked in Fidi. Large location, menu and has a great guac.

18. El Toro Blanco
Lot’s of different flavors for margaritas, another spot for great queso, good amount of tables. I’ve always had a good meal here.

19. Rosa Mexicano
Another one of the strongest but tastiest margaritas in the city. The quesadilla here is so good and the Union Square location is one of the coolest restaurants in the city in my opinion. (The glass roof seals the deal)

20. Blockheads
Oh Blockheads. Always reliable. No frills but lots of options, good prices and types of drinks. Make sure you get a Bulldog (beer in a margarita) but personally I love a French Bulldog (champagne in a margarita)
